I can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t want to be an Accountant.
I am the middle son of a successful Chartered Accountant father. At a very young age I worked for his Mississauga based firm during my school breaks. I spent my summers filing and cleaning storage areas but eventually I got behind a desk. Bookkeeping, completing tax filings, helping with financial reports and whatever I could manage as the new kid on the block.
After university, I began working as a graduate at a Deloitte in Toronto. Clients were large and consisted primarily of financial institutions and pension plans. As a graduate; I learned a whole lot in just a short couple of years.
After four years at Deloitte, I took a year off to travel around Australia with my partner. I came back to Toronto at the end of 2007 with a renewed excitement for the profession. This time I worked at my Dad’s firm for his successors; my mentors that I grew up learning from. I worked there for seven years and I helped small to medium local business with their tax and financial reporting needs…….
And I was good at it!
In those seven years I did a whole lot for businesses and individuals. I was highly relied upon for the execution and completion of the firm’s most complex engagements such as managing audits, preparing year-end reports for large corporate groups and preparing financial projections and forecasts. But most of all, I was relied on to manage the relationships of some of the firm’s most important clients.
In 2014, I moved to Australia to try something new. It didn’t take me long to get work in public practice.
My time in Australia was awesome. I worked for PriceWaterhouseCoopers as a Manager and got to do some incredible things. The most notable was working at a national mining company as an assistant controller for 3 months. During that time I lead the preparation of the company’s half year reporting and researched the transition to new technical accounting standards and the impact on the business.
At PWC, I was regularly relied on for my strong analytical and problem-solving skills on special projects including, financial analysis, impairment assessments, cashflow projections and internal control assessments; as well as detailed accounting policy review and assessment of accounting standards
In July 2019 I returned to Canada and Roetsch Financial Consulting was born. I have great working relationships with a few select clients. I am always excited to chat with new people.
